Jimmy Armentrout
MSPT, CFMT, OCS, Cert. MDT, MFDc
Jimmy Armentrout graduated from Texas A&M University with his Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1993 and then went on to earn his Master’s in Physical Therapy from Texas Woman’s University in 1997. He started his career at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA. He worked in numerous areas of rehabilitation during this 3 year period at Lourdes, providing him with a great variety of patients and experiences to learn from. During this time he found that the Outpatient Orthopaedic/Manual Therapy area of speciality was his calling and passion.
In 2000, Jimmy moved back to Texas and has been serving the north Dallas area ever since. He continued to develop his knowledge and skills completing his Certification in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (Cert. MDT) of the Spine through the McKenzie Institute in 2002. In 2003, Jimmy became 1 of 14 therapists in the state of Texas to be accepted into a 3 year manual therapy residency program. He completed this program in 2006 passing his Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT) with honors (>90% cumulative average). In 2008, he became a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. After utilizing Myofascial Decompression as part of his treatment approach since 2003, he officially became certified in this treatment technique in 2021 and Trigger Point Dry Needling certified in 2016.
Functional Manual Therapy is the foundation of Jimmy’s evaluation and treatment approach. Looking at the body as whole, he is able to identify and treat the root cause of what is functionally limiting each individual patient, rather than just managing the symptoms. Through the application of specific soft tissue and joint mobilizations, he is able to improve the identified mechanical limitations impacting posture and movement dysfunction. This is followed by neuromuscular re-education to restore the body’s ability to stabilize and move more efficiently with appropriate muscle recruitment patterns. By applying the Functional Manual Therapy® approach to patients, Jimmy has been able to achieve amazing outcomes for patients that have often failed to reach their full potential with traditional physical therapy. Jimmy has also been teaching and training other therapists across the nation since 2007. He became a primary instructor for the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) in 2012 and is currently teaching the Functional Mobilization I course. In August 2023, Jimmy partnered with Ryan Johnson to open IPA Physio Dallas in Plano, TX.
